PEDALS TO PRAYERS —
A RIDE ACROSS BHUTAN
A THBP DOCUMENTARY FILM
In the spring of 2024, I traveled to Bhutan with Hungarian extreme athlete and sustainability lecturer Viktor Zícho. Viktor and our Bhutanese professional mountain biking guide, Tshering Dundep, became the first people ever to travel the full length of the centuries-old Trans-Bhutan Trail by bicycle. I joined them for sections of the trail while creating a documentary capturing our experiences of Bhutan’s stunning landscapes, remarkable people, customs, and extraordinary energy. Along the way, we also explored the country’s unique approach to environmental and sustainability practices.
Viktor, our editing team, and I have been steadily working to complete the film, often while traveling—Viktor through Afghanistan, Iran, and Turkey, and me in South America and across Europe. I carried a laptop in my bike bags while cycling through Chile for much of the first half of the year, setting it aside upon reaching Patagonia so I could ride the Carretera Austral less encumbered, and later resuming editing in Europe this summer. The final edits are now underway, and the film will screen in Europe this fall, The final edits are now underway, with festival submissions planned for this winter in the United States and additional screenings next year.
I shot countless still images on the trip as well, and the stories they tell will soon grace the pages of THBP’s website. Check back for film updates and to visit the new galleries.
