MISSION

The Humans Being Project (THBP) is a global narrative about people everywhere, illustrating our shared humanity across cultural differences. Through powerful imagery and more, it opens windows onto the lives of individuals and cultures around the world, inviting connection and inspiration. THBP invites viewers to glimpse into the lives of individuals and cultures very different from their own, and to find connection there. In creating that connection, project founder, artist, dancer, and lifelong photographer Merrick Chase hopes to spark wonder, compassion, and a deeper appreciation of all life—reminding us that we are all part of the same human family.

ACTIVE WORK

recipe for life -
somatic practice for reality rewiring

While traveling by bicycle through the wilds of Chilean Patagonia in 2025, Merrick began experiencing a series of deep insights shaped by the land. He integrated these with many of his own extraordinary ways of moving through the world to create what he describes as a unique “new human operating system.” It’s designed to help practitioners step away from the dominant global narrative of disinformation, create their own reality from a place of infinite possibility, and move decisively toward manifesting their lifelong dreams and goals.

pedals & prayers: a ride across bhutan -
documentary film

Merrick spent nearly a month traveling across Bhutan with Hungarian extreme athlete and sustainability expert Viktor Zichó in 2024. Moving through landscapes rich in culture, spirit, and humanity, they, along with Bhutanese professional mountain biker Tshering Dundep, shot a film as they bikepacked across the centuries-old Trans-Bhutan Trail, learning firsthand about daily life in Bhutan and its bold approach to sustainability. Completed at the end of last year, Pedals and Prayers has screened across Europe and Bhutan and will premiere in France this June at Paris’s ARFF International Film Festival.

COMING IN 2027 - THBP’S PHOTO GRANT CONTEST

THBP will be awarding two grants totaling 3,500 euros to empower photographers with limited access to tools, funding, or opportunities—especially those documenting regions and communities rarely seen in global media. We’re seeking portrait images that highlight people and their daily realities in your home country. Residents of certain countries, including the United States, Canada, and the European Union, are not eligible. Click below to learn more.

DAY TO DAY WITH THBP FOUNDER, MERRICK CHASE

Hi, I’m Merrick! I travel the world to discover communities, cultures, and ways of life far different from my own. I encounter people from all walks of life and tell their stories through imagery, providing windows onto different worlds that aim to inform and inspire others. My intention is that these images will let you see life through others’ eyes, encounter worlds you never imagined existed, and recognize the shared humanity in us all.

You can explore hundreds of images from around the world on the Faces page, and years of archived adventures are available on THBP’s Facebook page.

Many images from Bhutan and other countries are still to come! May the images you see here touch you in some way and open you to possibilities you never sensed existed before…
